FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) panel water tanks, also known as SMC tanks, are modular storage systems widely used for potable water, industrial water, and fire protection. Brands like GTOFRP™ provide pre-molded panels that are assembled on-site, making installation flexible and space-efficient.
Before starting the installation, ensure the following are available:
GTOFRP™ FRP tank panels (base, side, top)
Stainless steel bolts and sealing washers
Rubber gaskets or food-grade sealant
Internal tie rods and bracing system
Spanners, torque wrench, sealant gun
Leveling instruments (laser or water level)
Hoist or pulley (for large panels)
A stable, level concrete base is essential.
Minimum thickness: 300 mm
Tolerance: Leveling deviation should not exceed 5 mm
Drainage: Install floor drains or slope the base slightly
Anchoring: Embedded anchor bolts may be required for tanks over 20,000 L
Tip: GTOFRP™ offers design support for tank foundation based on project size and soil conditions.
Lay out the bottom panels in the required tank dimensions.
Connect panels using stainless steel bolts and rubber sealing washers.
Tighten bolts diagonally to ensure even pressure and proper sealing.
Attach side panels row by row, starting from one corner.
Use vertical corner panels or L-brackets for structural stability.
Apply food-grade sealant between all joints.
Bracing systems (vertical and horizontal tie rods) should be installed every 1 meter.
Once side panels are complete and braced, mount the top cover panels.
Ensure top panel bolts are fastened tightly and evenly.
Install the following accessories as needed:
Inlet & outlet pipes
Overflow and drainage pipes
Manhole cover or inspection hatch
Air vent and internal ladder
All bolt joints must be sealed with gaskets or polyurethane sealant.
Sealant must be fully cured before water testing—typically 24–48 hours.
GTOFRP™ tanks use high-performance non-toxic sealants, suitable for drinking water.
Conduct a hydrostatic test by filling the tank with clean water.
Monitor for 24 hours to check for leaks or deformation.
Retighten bolts if necessary during the test.
Inspect bracing system and ensure no displacement.
Avoid direct sunlight during curing to prevent sealant failure.
Do not over-torque bolts — use torque wrench to prevent panel cracking.
For cold climates, add thermal insulation panels around the tank.
In earthquake-prone zones, GTOFRP™ offers seismic-resistant bracing designs.
